The Reading Chair - September 2007

Our big project during Literacy Week this year was to set up a Reading Chair - well actually a big comfy sofa - and invite anyone in the school to spend a period during the day just reading! The aim was to have a continuous read-a-thon on the sofa to show our non-readers that reading is fun and to encourage others to keep up their reading. Reading is so important in our modern society but with all the visual stimuli around, many teenagers read very little or not at all. Reading like so many things improves with practice and it has a flow-on effect in helping spelling, grammar and general knowledge without even thinking about it. It enhances the imagination, helps develop critical thinking and makes you a more interesting person!

So take up the challenge and start reading!
