Oak Leaf 20: Activities Week

The very last event of Activities Week was the HSC Breakfast on Friday 15 December which saw the Class of 2017 return for one last BBQ - this time to celebrate their successes. 2018 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2017, all NSW public schools will receive a 2018 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. NDIS continues its roll out across NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. Mannequin Challenge

Last term at the Formal Assembly the Positive Behaviour for Learning team were very proud to launch the AHS Mannequin Challenge. The Mannequin Challenge was an idea to promote what positive behaviour looks like in different areas of the school. The SRC helped to film all the roll call groups in different areas of the school and the students of AHS came up with ideas of how to display the positive behaviours in these areas. NAPLAN Online School readiness test

NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. As part of the Premier's Debating Challenge, the Armidale High School Year 9 and Year 10 debating teams participated in a Round 1 debate last Monday in the school library. In a close debate, both teams debated well the proposition that NAPLAN testing should be banned. However, the winning team from Year 10 presented a very compelling Negative case that NAPLAN should not be banned. Both teams will next debate Farrer Memorial High School from Tamworth and will have one more opportunity to debate each other in this round of the competition.... Read more

Introducing Healthy School Canteens

The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system. The revised strategy is consistent with the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines and classifies food and drinks as either Everyday or Occasional. Sugary drinks will continue not to be sold.
