2016 HSC Results Are In

Armidale High HSC Class of 2016 have displayed excellent results with 50% of the students achieving in Band 5 and Band 6. In total, there are 20 Band 6s and 88 Band 5s! Fantastic and well done! Relay for life 2016

AHS Joins Relay for Life

18 Armidale High students and 4 staff members signed up this year for to 'Relay for Life' making the AHS team the largest team at the Armidale event. The students were successful in their goal to raise $2,000 in support of the Cancer Council to raise awareness Our students participated in Relay for Life for various individual reasons: in memory of a loved one, support someone living with cancer, celebrate those who have beaten cancer, to raise awareness and also raise funds for the Cancer Council's vital research, prevention and support... Hands-on Engineering

AHS students learn practical engineering and renewable energy skills and test them out on a track. A team of motivated and enthusiastic students from UNSW are travelling around NSW with a solar powered car and bringing engineering and renewable lessons to life. The Sunswift team consists of a variety students from various backgrounds and degrees such as: Mechanical, Electrical, Renewable Energy, Photovoltaics, Computer Science, Commerce, Arts and Industrial Design. Year 10 students take the challenge

Engineers without Borders

Engineers without Borders is a not-for-profit, member-driven organisation with 10 years of experience in creating systematic change through humanitarian engineering. Students from UNSW brought modules developed to connect to the NSW curriculum to Armidale High School; challenging students in Years 9 and 10 to create floating houses such as those in the Tonle Sap region of Cambodia and wind turbines to generate electricity. 2017 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2016, all NSW public schools will receive a 2017 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. English Studies Excursion

As part of their first HSC module study called Local Heroes: English and the Community, the Year 12 English Studies class spent an afternoon contemplating the military and civilian heroes commemorated in Armidale's Central Park. Students listened to talks about these Armidale heroes and recorded inscriptional information for later use in the classroom. YMCA NSW Junior Parliament Rep

Caitlin Schuman was one of 95 student in years 7-9 from across NSW in Parliament this week debating Bills and discussing issues of importance to young people. Local Member, Mr Adam Marshall says: "I was thrilled to be involved in this successful program again this year, chairing debate in the House on an Education Bill about school counsellors. Armidale High School has again performed outstandingly at Tournament of the Minds to win the Regional Finals in Tamworth which means that they will be competing at State Finals at UNSW, Sydney on 11th September. Tournament of the Minds (ToM) is a problem solving program for teams of students and aims to enhance the potential of youth. CHOOSEMATHS Award to Yr 8 Team

Three of our Year 8 students, Juliet Knuckey, Rachael Calliess, and Steph Hancock have won an award in the "Choose Maths" awards. This is a national competition for high school maths students where they are asked to create a video about Maths in everyday life. Our students have won a prize and have been invited to the awards ceremony in Melbourne on the 26th August where they will find out if they they have placed first or highly commended in their category. We welcome 16 students and 5 supervisors from Japan to our school. Included in our visiting group is Mr NOKA, who is the head of Nanto City Junior High School International Homestay Association. The 9th of August, a special welcome assembly was held for our Japanese visitors followed by a jam-packed week of cross-cultural interactions and activities. Boccia team

Boccia Team Compete in Sydney

The Armidale High School boccia team are state finalists after winning the regional championships in Tamworth. The team, who are in the high school's support unit, will travel down to Sydney next week accompanied by their fellow AHS support unit students. Boccia is a modified form of bowling for athletes with a disability and is contested from local to Olympic levels. UNE School Acquisitive Art Prize (UNESAP) Exhibition is currently on display at NERAM presenting artworks by students from 46 primary and secondary schools across regional NSW. 12 Students + 2 Staff = 1 Amazing Experience!

On Monday, May 2nd, our European travellers will return to school to jump back into their studies and extracurricular activities. Between April 12 and 27th, 12 students and 2 teachers were on a European Study Tour in Italy and France. This was an amazing opportunity for all involved and was an invaluable opportunity to visit some of the most famous, precious and significant historical sites the world has to offer. Armidale High School's European Study Tour is just around the corner, with 12 students and 2 staff flying out of Sydney on Tuesday, 12th April. The Study Tour has been a long time in the making, needing lots of behind-the-scenes organisation, dedication and support from students and families.
