Aboriginal Dancers Represent at Schools Spectacular

Aboriginal Dance Ensemble- School Spectacular 2015 During week 8, Kiara French, Jaynaha Brown and Joanne Morgan travelled to Sydney to dance with the Aboriginal Dance Ensemble at the School Spectacular. Three days were spent with the dancers from Bangarra Dance Company who choreographed the dance to a medley of songs from The Sapphires and taught it to the 200 dancers. Year 10 Lifesaving Program

Our year 10 students took the opportunity to participate in a lifesaving program this week. The program teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgement, knowledge, skills and fitness. CPR is also taught at all levels and students learn vital resuscitation techniques as a mandatory part of all the lifesaving awards. Success at SeaWorld for our Year 11 Students

Congratulations to the year 12 Hospitality students who represented Armidale High School through successfully completing work experience at Seaworld Resort recently. Students worked at the resort in November over a 4 day period as part of their hospitality course work. Applications for student travel 2016

From 2 November 2015, a new online SSTS application process is being introduced for schools within the Opal network, coinciding with the introduction of the School Opal card. Schools outside the Opal network should continue to process the existing blue SSTS application forms and send them to the appropriate transport operators. Most parents, guardians and students won't need to apply for a school travel pass for 2016 if they have already been given a school student travel pass for the current year. NSW Premier's Sporting Challenge 2015 Armidale High participated in the 2015 NSW Premier's Sporting Challenge with great success. Students in Years 7 and 8 along with over 30 staff members were challenged to exercise over a 10 week period. The school was funded with $900 which will go toward the purchase of some innovative fitness equipment and sport supplies to assist with increasing opportunities for physical activity. Last week Extension 2 English Students gained important insights from experienced HSC markers about how to successfully realise their major works and reflection statements, including crafting a sophisticated concept, choosing a form, and developing a concept through rigorous research. 2016 school funding allocations

All NSW public schools are currently being advised of their 2016 Resource Allocation Model (RAM) funding. RAM distributes funding based on individual needs of students and schools, and gives schools greater flexibility to make financial decisions. The way schools use their RAM funding will vary based on local needs. Some support will be for the entire school, and some will be for particular groups of students or individual students. A Successful Start for the Open Boy's Cricket Team

The Armidale High School open boy's cricket team defeated Duval High School in the first round of the state-wide knockout competition. Armidale High elected to field first and restricted Duval High to 156 runs off their allotted overs. Daniel Boyd took 3 wickets and Callum Butler 2, and with some tight bowling from Henry Sindel and Tom Smith, Duval never really got on top. Fitz Hadley 2015 Regional Plain English Speaking Champion

Fitz travelled to Tamworth last week to contest the finals in this competition at Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School. He faced competitors from many Tamworth and Armidale schools but sealed his win with an excellent impromtu speech. The semi-final will be contested in Sydney against all other NSW regional winners on the 12th of June. What would prompt an Armidale school girl to dye her hair blue and then have it shaved off? Well, raising funds for an aid project on the remote Vanuatu island of Pentecost is the answer for young school girl, Grace Paris. Fresh Hope Armidale, a Church of Christ, has had a connection with Ranwadi High School since 2010, sending a team over each year for projects that the high school has nominated.
