As you're probably aware, the NSW Government has committed significant funding for a new, purpose-built secondary school in Armidale.
Planning for the new school will commence in Term 3, when students, staff, parents and the wider community will be invited to engage with the project team to determine the school's facilities and raise questions about how the project will unfold. In addition to this, the project team will welcome feedback from stakeholders on how best to ensure that the rich culture and heritage of the existing two schools is respected and incorporated into the new-build.
It is proposed that a project officer and communications group will bring focus groups together, hold forums and interviews, and create opportunities for students, parents, staff and wider community members to make comment during planning over the next eighteen months.
During 2017 and 2018, it's business as usual at Armidale and Duval High Schools. High quality teaching and learning will continue with no disruption.
Careful planning will ensure that all students, and particularly students in Year 12 and those with disabilities, transition smoothly onto the Duval High School site in 2019. This will be achieved through consultation with the students and parents, well in advance of the move.
Students, parents and the wider Armidale community will be kept up-to-date as planning progresses via a dedicated website, soon to be developed. We'll also be communicating via the school's Facebook pages and websites. We'll be providing answers to Frequently Asked Questions and a monthly newsletter will be available in hard copy and online from Term 3.
We are at the beginning of a very exciting journey – one that will result in a state-of-the art educational facility without rival in regional NSW. There is much to do and we look forward to sharing the planning journey with our school communities.
