Harmony Garden planting - 15th November, 2007
It was a beautiful afternoon after the rains of the past two weeks which had dampened the soil in our Harmony garden just nicely. Parents and students of some of our multicultural families joined together in a wonderfully harmonious afternoon of gardening. The Harmony Garden in the school was designed by Mrs Hitchcock as a tribute to our multicultural heritage at Armidale High School. Plants were selected to represent some of the cultures that we have been associated with - China, Japan, South Africa, India, Europe and Britain. All the plants are very hardy and will withstand drought. The garden was funded by a Commonwealth Grant aimed at Values in our schools and preparation was done by Ron Jackson with some student assistance. The group planted over 70 small shrubs, bulbs and groundcovers in about 30 minutes, which was a wonderful achievement. Following the planting, the garden was officially opened by the Principal, Anne Matley in a small ceremony. A multicultural afternoon tea was then enjoyed by all. The school wishes to thank everyone involved in this project, especially our multicultural parents who joined in. Projects of this kind help us to cement the bonds of parent/school partnerships which are vital for a school to function well in the 21st century.
