German Day 2007
The Yr 8 German class at AHS participated in the recent Annual German Day activities held at Thalgarrah on the 21st June. 19 boys from the class attended and they joined students from PLC and Duval HS. Activities on the day included a rotation with the three teachers, Mrs Graser (PLC), Ms Stoeger (Duval) and Mrs Hitchcock (AHS). They participated in a German treasure hunt, Create your own TV ad and a dramatisation of the introduction to the famous German saga 'The Niebelungenlied'. There were a number of entries in the cake competition. Sections included the best decorated cake with a German theme and the most authentic recipe. After a lunch of Semmel und Wurst (bread roll and BBQ German sausage) the cakes were cut up and distributed. In the afternoon all the students were put into 4 teams in the colours of the top Handball teams in Germany and played a knockout and a final. The Magdeburg Gladiators won the tournament. It was a fun day all round and a great way to use German language skills in a different environment. We are indebted to Thalgarrah Field Studies Centre for allowing us to use the facility each year and to TAG! NSW, the German teachers association which subsidised the bus costs.
