English and Drama

The English/Drama faculty is a dedicated team who deliver Stage 4, 5 and 6 programs that are challenging, varied and suited to the needs of a wide variety students at Armidale High School.

As a partially selective high school, our English teaching programs reflect Gifted and Talented approaches to teaching, including the application of conceptually-based content and other strategies to differentiate the curriculum. We also have a strong commitment to literacy development and incorporate John Hattie's Learning Development Cycle in our junior programs to enhance the achievement of all students in our care.

In the senior school, Armidale High is a pilot school for the introduction of the English Studies course: however, our Extension English courses continue to be both successful and popular. Students who choose to study Preliminary Extension English also take up the challenge of Extension 2 English in Year 12 where the highest results are often achieved.

In 2017 the faculty will introduce Philosophy for the first time as a 1 unit option in the Preliminary Year.

Drama plays a very important role in the curriculum at Armidale High. We have two energetic drama teachers who work creatively to engage all students in an exciting range of drama activities. Our students are usually  short listed and selected for Onstage where the best HSC Individual and Group performances from across the state are showcased.
